“My cat! My cat! What’s wrong with Mrs. Lorice?” he screamed.
Then, his bulging eyes saw Harry.
"You!" he screamed. "You! You killed my cat! You killed it! I'll kill you! I'll—"
Looking at the despairing administrator, Levin reminded him with some pity, "Mr. Filch, Mrs. Lorice is not dead, she has only been petrified!"
Filch said in a low voice, "Really? You swear! No, no, Mrs. Lorris, it, it's already..."
At that moment, the students pushed aside, and Dumbledore arrived with Professor McGonagall.
"Headmaster, Headmaster Dumbledore! Please look at Mrs. Lorris!" Filch placed all his hopes on the White Wizard.
Dumbledore glanced at the students around him, then at the words on the wall, before moving closer to the stiff Mrs. Lorris and scrutinizing her closely.
Filch, standing behind him, was at a loss and blurted out, "Headmaster, Mr. Green said it's not dead. Mr. Green is telling the truth, right?"
Dumbledore nodded: "It's still alive."
As he spoke, he rescued the petrified cat.
“Come with me, Filch,” he said softly. “Oh, and Mr. Green, Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasley, I need your help.”
"The rest of you go back and rest first."
Lockhart stepped forward eagerly.
"My office is the closest to here, and the principal is right here—you can—"
"Thank you, Gilderoy."
The silent crowd parted to let them pass.
Lockhart was very excited, looking quite smug, and hurriedly followed behind Dumbledore.
The moment Dumbledore agreed, he had already figured out how to position himself in a dominant role in the book;
Professor McGonagall and Snape followed.
Hermione didn't leave; she followed closely behind Levin.
Upon arriving at Lockhart's office, Dumbledore placed Filch on the desk and, while carefully examining him, inquired about the events from the young wizards.
Behind him, several young wizards exchanged glances where they couldn't see them.
Harry opened his mouth, silently telling Levin and Hermione, "This has nothing to do with me."
But he quickly stopped himself from doing so, because he found Snape standing behind them, half his body hidden in the shadows, staring straight at him with a malicious look that made him very uncomfortable.
Harry remembered Levine saying that Professor Snape's hairline was a bit receding...
He was willing to give his hair to Snape to make a beautiful wig, just to beg him to spare him.
Of all those present, Lockhart was undoubtedly the most active.
He circled around Dumbledore, offering advice and never stopping talking.
"It must have been a curse that killed it... I suspect it was a transfiguration torture spell. I've seen others use this spell many times. It's a real shame I wasn't there; I happen to know the antidote and could have saved it..."
Dumbledore remained silent and continued studying Mrs. Norris.
“…I remember something very similar happened in Ouagadougou,” Lockhart continued, “a series of attacks, detailed in my autobiography. At the time, I provided the people with all sorts of amulets, and the problem was solved immediately…”
However, Dumbledore interrupted him.
"Mrs. Lorris has been petrified," he concluded.
“Ah, I think so too,” Lockhart immediately chimed in, as if the person who had spoken three minutes earlier was one of his cousins. “No one knows the Petrification Charm better than me.”
Levin and the others covered their mouths behind them, almost bursting out laughing, while Harry laughed the loudest.
He was thoroughly tricked by Lockhart in Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
But then he suddenly realized that having such a professor could be quite amusing at times.
But Harry immediately realized his mistake.
Because the firepower shifted back to him.
“It must have been Harry!” Filch accused. “You saw what he wrote on the wall!”
"Harry, what did you do to Filch!"
After Lockhart was slapped in the face at lightning speed, he noticed that the students were laughing at him and immediately tried to shift the blame.
“I didn’t touch it at all!” Harry shouted. “When I got there, it was already lying on the ground.”
“Excuse me, Headmaster,” Snape suddenly said.
“Of course.” Dumbledore nodded.
"Perhaps, Potter just shouldn't have been there at that time."
Harry was somewhat incredulous that Snape would actually speak up for him.
But he soon realized that he had been overthinking it.
"But we did encounter a series of questions. Why did he go to the upper corridor in the first place? Why didn't he attend the Halloween party?"
"I went to Nick's death anniversary party...there were hundreds of ghosts there, they can testify that I was there—"
Harry was eager to prove it, but unfortunately there wasn't a single ghost on the scene.
Suddenly, he looked at Levin:
"By the way, we were with Levin and Hermione before attending the anniversary party, and they can vouch for that too."
Levin nodded: "That's right, I saw them attend the anniversary party with my own eyes."
“But then what? Why didn’t you come to the banquet?” Snape said, his dark eyes gleaming in the candlelight. “Why did you go up to the corridor?”
“Because—because—” Harry lied, “I’m tired and want to go to sleep.”
"Not eating dinner?" Snape pressed on. "I don't think the food the ghosts serve at the party is very suitable for the living."
0???????
"Because of you we...we're full! We ate a whole black bread!"
Ron shouted, pulling a thumb-sized crumb from his pocket.
Dark bread that has been left out for a long time becomes as hard as a brick.
"Why would they choose to eat black bread instead of the delicious food at the banquet?"
Snape's smirk deepened.
“Because…because I like black bread,” Ron blurted out, “Black bread is the best.”
As if to prove it, he threw the hard piece of black bread into his mouth and began to chew it.
Levin could almost hear the sound of raw bricks being chewed.
In the end, it was Dumbledore who made the final decision.
“Harry is innocent unless he is proven guilty, Severus.”
Then he looked at the indignant Filch.
"To cause a petrification effect requires the most advanced level of dark magic, which is impossible for a second-year student."
Levin, standing behind him, secretly shook his head.
.0
In fact, he can do that.
Having mastered the Transfiguration specialization, he quickly learned the two sixth-circle spells, Petrify and Unpetrify, after reaching level 11 Wizard.
This isn't a temporary stiffness caused by [all being petrified],
Rather, it is a true petrification, similar to Medusa's petrifying eye and the [Full Body Binding Curse] imbued with ancient magic.
The kind that can't be turned back unless someone breaks the curse.
But that doesn't stop him from being a second-year student.
Of course, even if he could remove the petrification, he didn't intend to reveal it just like that.
The performance she showed at the Halloween dinner just now has provided enough exposure for a while now.
He certainly needs these kinds of high-profile events to maintain his reputation among the young wizards.
But he doesn't need to show his face twice in a short period of time.
Mrs. Lorris is not worth his rash actions.
Unless the threat of petrification continues to rage, and the school cannot come up with a solution in the short term,
By then, the panic had accumulated to a certain level, and that was the right time to take action.
As for provoking Dumbledore now, it should be done in moderation.
Dumbledore continued to reassure Filch: "Mrs. Sprout planted some mandrakes this term. Once they're fully grown, I have a medicine that can bring Mrs. Lorris back to life."
“I’ll make it,” Lockhart interjected. “I’ve made it at least a hundred times. I can make mandrake resurrection potion while I’m dreaming about it—nobody knows mandrake resurrection potion better than me.”
You understand, you understand, you understand everything. Why don't you go to America and compete with someone named Trump for the title of "Buddha of the West"?
Levin internally complained.
Sure enough, my prediction came true.
“You don’t need to do that,” Snape interjected. “I’m the Potions teacher!”
“That’s a shame,” Lockhart shook his head. “Snape, you’ll regret this.”
However, with everything finally at a preliminary conclusion, Levin and his three companions were able to leave and return to their dormitory.
Chapter 125 Washroom
Hermione was quite bold when she volunteered to join the investigation team.
But on the way back to the break room from the office, she held Levin's arm tightly the whole time.
It seemed they were afraid of being suddenly attacked.
Harry and Ron glanced at his posture frequently.
