Xia Die (Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia) : 7: Ereshkigal's Affection
Upon hearing Ai Lei's question, Xia Die tilted her head in confusion, then pondered for a moment, unable to come up with a proper answer.
why?
Why is that?
I just don't want to see lives disappear before my eyes, so I unconsciously want to protect them.
Although she had been protecting people these past few days, Xia Die hadn't really thought about this issue.
"Shouldn't it be a normal thing for the strong to protect the weak?"
"That's what Xia Die said softly."
Is it normal?
Ai Lei raised an eyebrow: "Isn't it the norm for the strong to wantonly bully the weak?"
"I cannot agree with this. If one swings a knife at the weak, one is not a strong person, but a coward. A strong person should challenge the stronger."
"So even if these people fear you and distance themselves from you, you still have to protect them?"
Hearing Xia Die's denial, Ai Lei asked in return.
One sentence plunged Xia Die into a brief silence.
“They are not afraid of me, but of death. It is normal for them to feel fear and stay away from me after seeing my abilities.”
A faint sadness appeared in Xia Die's eyes. Her slender fingertips lightly touched the bushes beside her, and the lush bushes turned yellow and dry in an instant.
“Life should fear death, it’s instinctive. I used to think this ability was a curse given to me by the Titans, but now that this power can be used to save more lives, I feel that this power is a blessing. Without this blessing, I would not have been able to protect so many people in these two days.”
Xia Die looked at Ai Lei and smiled faintly. The moonlight shone on her face, making her look like a goddess.
Looking at Xia Die, Ai Lei couldn't help but feel a little moved.
In fact, if it weren't for Xiaodie's special abilities, even with Merlin and Anna by their side, they would never have been able to lead so many survivors through so many places.
As long as Xia Die uses her abilities, she can instill fear in many magical beasts, preventing them from approaching.
Of course, there is a limit to the number of people she can protect, and fortunately, the survivors she has encountered so far have not exceeded the limits of her abilities.
However, this is not necessarily a good thing, as it indicates that the number of survivors in other cities has dwindled to a certain extent.
Xia Die and her companions passed through several cities along the way, but so far they have only collected fifty or sixty survivors, less than a hundred!
Can death also protect others?
Ai Lei stared blankly at the butterfly in front of her for a moment.
"Death is terrible, but it is precisely because of the fear of death that humans can shine in adversity. If even death is no longer terrifying... then humans must become very strange... It is because of the fear of death that parents sacrifice themselves to feed animals and protect their two children, allowing them to survive until my arrival."
Once, a senior once told me: "The greatness of a journey, the grandeur of an epic, lies in the fact that all things eventually perish. So, don't hate fate; embrace it with reverence." At first, I couldn't understand this, but as I came into this world and used my abilities to protect people, I gradually came to understand.
With her hands folded in front of her chest and a smile on her face, Xia Die softly told Ai Lei her story.
I am the god of death, yet I was somewhat moved by what a mortal said...
For a moment, Ai Lei didn't know what to say.
After all, her view has always been that death is the most abhorrent existence for all life in the world, and even though she is the goddess of death, she cannot avoid having this idea.
She had always harbored some resentment, wondering why she was the only one dutifully guarding the cold and heartless underworld. But after a conversation with Xia Die, her resentment seemed to dissipate somewhat.
Although it was not much, it was still of great significance.
Although their time together was brief, Ai Lei still developed a strong liking for Xia Die, after all, she had always been alone before meeting Xia Die.
Therefore, after meeting Xia Die, she unconsciously wanted to approach her, after all, Ai Lei could tell.
Xia Die shares the same essence as herself. However, after getting to know her, Ai Lei discovered that even though she was facing death, Xia Die valued life more than anyone else.
Clearly, she only needed to reach out her hand to bring death to life...
Logically speaking, the other party should have long since become indifferent to death, just like I am now.
Although she really wanted to talk to Xia Die some more, time was running out, and dawn was just around the corner. If they continued talking, Ishtar would wake up soon. Right now, Ereshkigal didn't want Xia Die to know her true identity.
"Let's chat again sometime, ouch..."
Eresh stretched, and perhaps because the evening breeze was a bit cool, even her Servant body couldn't help but react.
After all, Ishtar's outfit was far too revealing.
It was at the very moment she sneezed that her long, shimmering golden hair appeared on her body, revealing her true identity that she had been hiding all along.
However, it was only for that one moment.
When Ereshkigal opened her eyes again, her body had transformed back into Ishtar's form.
"See you."
Xia Die waved gently to the other person and watched them leave.
I was quite lucky; I had only been there a short time when I won the favor of two goddesses.
Although Ishtar is somewhat unreliable, she is still very strong and can play a good role as an ally later on.
As for Ereshkigal, she is even more important. After all, if The Butterfly wants to find the Titan's spark, Ereshkigal's help is essential. Although the spark may not actually be in the Underworld, the probability of it being there is still very high.
Moreover, even if they weren't actually in the underworld, Ereshkigal's help would make things a bit easier.
So far, I haven't seen Gudako or Shield Hero. Although I feel there's nothing wrong with it, my intuition tells me that I should make a few more preparations. After all, relying on myself is always more reliable than relying on others.
As the campfire gradually died down, a pale light began to appear on the distant horizon, and then, under Xia Die's watchful gaze, the sun slowly rose into the sky.
This also means that I am about to arrive in Uruk.
Beyond the hills, the group could see the towering city walls and the monstrous beasts roaring like a tsunami beneath them.
This is the true Absolute Demonic Front.
Now, Xia Die and the others still face one last hurdle: how to lead these dozens of survivors, whose identities are clearly visible, across the monster tide and back into Uruk's protected area.
The Butterfly (Absolute Demonic Front!): 8: The Unfrank Anna
In the distance, outside the city of Uruk, a fierce battle raged.
Aside from the most basic grunts, the lionhound Uridim, and various common monsters and dragons.
There are also many high-level magical beasts here.
For example, the lion and Ugal that were killed in the previous episodes of The Butterfly Chronicles, as well as Muxiu Huxiu, who has a huge bladed head and a scorpion tail.
It's important to understand that these magical beasts are fundamentally different from ordinary magical beasts. These advanced magical beasts are among the eleven children of the goddess Tiamat, and their physique and strength are greatly improved compared to ordinary magical beasts.
Aside from Servants, ordinary soldiers cannot defeat them.
Before Xia Die and the others arrived, the Servant Tomoe Gozen summoned by Gilgamesh perished together with this high-level monster.
The fact that an extremely powerful servant could only perish together with these magical beasts shows just how dire the current battle situation has become.
That was a real war, a war for the survival of humanity.
Today, apart from Uruk, there are not many other human city-states that are still holding on.
Those who failed to evacuate in time became food for the monsters.
Despite the continued resistance from the onslaught of the monsters and the fact that they managed to repel several waves of monsters with extremely high casualty rates, the human side was still unable to reverse the tide of the war.
After all, the number of monsters is endless, while the human fighting force is difficult to replenish.
"With so many of them, how are we supposed to get across?"
Standing on the distant cliff, Anna looked at the waves below and couldn't help but glance at Xiaodie beside her.
“This is really a headache. If it were just the few of us, we could easily reach Uruk. But if we add these survivors, it will be difficult... My ability can't work on so many people at the same time.”
Merlin watched this scene with some trouble in his eyes. These people had suffered a lot along the way, and Xiaodie had also expended a lot of energy to protect them. However, this level of consumption was nothing to Xiaodie, since she was not a Servant and did not have such strict magical power restrictions except for physical limitations.
As a Golden Descendant who has lived for a thousand years, Xia Die's strength is beyond doubt.
Especially when dealing with these magical beasts, it's practically a game-changer.
However, no matter how strong they are, this challenge is still extremely difficult.
You must understand that the waves of monsters outside are endless. What Xia Die needs to do is to protect these survivors while crossing this endless tide of beasts and reaching Uruk.
The journey is not far. According to the optimal route provided by Merlin, it is only about a thousand meters away. Moreover, if you reach a place 300 meters away from Uruk, there will be servants to meet you.
But the problem is, how do we get these dozens of people through these beast tides?
"Hmm...would it be feasible for us to take them over one by one? If we take one or two at a time, it won't take long for these dozens of people to get there."
Merlin looked down at the horde of monsters, pondered for a moment, and then stroked his chin as he spoke.
"Although I hate humans, I can help with this small matter for your sake."
Anna glanced at Xia Die and said.
Although Anna was somewhat reserved, she had noticed how well Xiaodie had taken care of her these past few days, whether it was deliberately saving the best food for her during meals or letting her rest more to recover her magic during night watch.
Anna didn't say anything, but she saw it all.
Although her awkward personality prevented her from frankly saying thank you to Xia Die, she was still able to help her to this extent.
"Not very good."
Xiadie shook her head.
“These monsters are not without reason; there must be someone directing their actions.”
Xia Die looked at these magical beasts and gently shook her head.
"You're right. These magical beasts are backed by high-level magical beasts. Before, one of the Servants summoned by King Gilgamesh perished alongside a magical beast general. Although no other such beings have appeared yet, judging from the fact that the beast tide continued its attack after the general's death, there might be more than one such high-level being among these magical beasts..."
Merlin nodded, rejecting the suggestion.
"Actually, I have a solution, Merlin, but I need your help."
After thinking for a moment, Xia Die looked at Merlin and said.
"any solution?"
