Chapter 334 Politicians
Chapter 334 Politicians
Hokage Building.
The Konoha leaders did not leave immediately after the meeting.
Fugaku Uchiha frowned, his eyes filled with confusion.
He looked at Hiruzen Sarutobi, who was sitting in the main seat drinking tea, and then glanced at the two advisors next to him who were chatting casually with smiles on their faces. Finally, he couldn't help but speak up.
"Lord Hokage, and the two advisors."
Fugaku's voice was deep, carrying a hint of the straightforwardness characteristic of the Uchiha clan: "I really don't understand."
"The technologies that Che just mentioned—drought-resistant cultivation, deep groundwater exploration, and even large-scale infrastructure technology—are core achievements that the Academy of Sciences has developed over the past few years with countless human, material, and financial resources. Some of them are still in the theoretical stage."
"Any one of these items would be enough to give a village a qualitative leap in strength in a short period of time."
Fugaku was somewhat agitated. He couldn't understand why the usually shrewd and calculating higher-ups would agree to what he considered a near-crazy plan. Although he had pretended to be nonchalant, he hadn't known about the news any earlier than the village leaders.
He had thought it was just an ordinary meeting, but it turned out to be related to the entire ninja world. He hadn't heard a word about it beforehand, so he couldn't help but glance at Nishikawa Tetsu.
Nishikawa Tetsuya shrugged helplessly, indicating that he had been put on a gag order.
To be honest, Nishikawa Tetsu himself found it unbelievable. During his time in Amegakure, he had only casually mentioned the idea of a shared destiny for the ninja world to Jiraiya-sensei, and Jiraiya immediately told the Third Hokage about it.
The Third Hokage really took this matter to heart, and discussed it with me and Shikanobu before the Chunin Exams.
Seeing this, Fugaku continued:
"We defeated them on the battlefield, and now we're going to hand over these technologies that could make us rich and powerful to them?"
"Isn't this raising a tiger to cause future trouble?! Isn't this aiding the enemy?!"
"Once they've recovered from using these technologies, their economy has developed, and their population has increased, they can turn their attention back to Konoha. Wouldn't we be shooting ourselves in the foot then?"
Fugaku's question was forceful and resounding. His eyes, though empty, were filled with worry for the village's future, showing that he truly cared about Konoha. The Uchiha clan was deeply intertwined with Konoha.
Faced with Fugaku's questioning, Hiruzen Sarutobi remained silent, only glancing at Minato Namikaze with a questioning tone.
"Minato, what do you think?"
Minato Namikaze stood up, his gentle face now radiating a wise light.
"Fugaku-senpai, you only saw the output of technology, but you didn't see what was behind the technology."
Minato walked to the sand table and gently touched the golden lines that Nishikawa Tetsu had drawn earlier.
"First of all, what we're exporting isn't core ninjutsu or weapons, but infrastructure. A railway, an energy storage station, an oasis—these things can't be used directly to kill people."
"Secondly, and most importantly."
"Once the oases of Sand Village rely on the water purification system we provide, once the mineral transportation of Rock Village becomes inseparable from our hover trains, once the energy lifeline of Cloud Village is controlled by our energy storage stations, and the air routes of Mist Village depend on our technology..."
Minato looked at Fugaku and said seriously:
"Their lifeline is in our hands."
"They've become accustomed to this convenience, this efficient operating model. If they were to launch a war, their first concern would be whether Konoha would suddenly shut down the maintenance of their equipment overnight? Would they cut off the supply of core components? Would they issue a paralysis command to their software systems?"
"I think Che is right about what he said: it's easy to go from frugality to extravagance, but difficult to go from extravagance to frugality. When a village's operations are entirely based on the standards provided by Konoha..."
"We don't need to send ninjas to the front lines to fight. We can simply press a button in the control center to impose a simple 'technology blockade' or 'trade sanctions'."
"Their trains will stop running, their water pumps will break down, and their factories will shut down. Their proud army will collapse without a fight, without logistical and resource support."
"This is not aiding the enemy, Fugaku-senpai."
Minato Namikaze's gentle voice resonated throughout the conference room.
"This is called... peaceful evolution."
Fugaku Uchiha looked at Minato Namikaze with surprise.
Looking at this young man who had once fought alongside him on the battlefield and always wore a sunny smile, he suddenly felt a little unfamiliar with him, but it was hard to say whether this change was good or bad.
"You..." Fugaku opened his mouth, but found himself speechless.
He turned to look at Nishikawa Tetsu sitting next to him. Nishikawa Tetsu was shrugging innocently, as if to say, "It's none of my business, he figured it out himself."
Koharu Utatane, who had been sitting to the right of the third generation, also put down her teacup.
For once, a rare smile of approval appeared on her usually serious and rigid face.
"Minato is right."
Xiaochun adjusted her glasses, her eyes revealing the shrewdness of a politician.
"Fugaku, you're still looking at this problem with the traditional village confrontational mindset. But this concept of a community of shared destiny needs a different approach."
"Take Sunagakure for example," Koharu said, pointing to the location of the Land of Wind on the map.
"They are poor, they are hungry, so they bite people like mad dogs, and even go so far as to start wars to divert attention from their internal problems."
"If we only defeat them on the battlefield, the hatred will only grow stronger, and the next generation, and the generation after that, will continue to fight."
"But if we give them food and water, when their people become accustomed to the cheap and efficient agricultural techniques that Konoha provides, when their economy becomes completely dependent on the trade routes we have opened up."
"Do you think their higher-ups can easily incite hatred against Konoha?"
Mitokado also took over the conversation at the opportune moment.
"Xiaochun is right, and there's an even more hidden benefit to it."
"Once these countries accept our infrastructure and technology standards, their future ninja training systems will have to change to adapt to these new technologies."
"For example, they originally trained Wind Release ninjas for combat, but now they may need more Wind Release ninjas to maintain wind power plants; they originally trained Earth Release ninjas to build fortifications, but now they need to build railway foundations that meet Konoha standards."
"If this continues, their ninja resources will be largely consumed by infrastructure and maintenance, while we in Konoha can use the money we earn to continue developing more advanced technologies and weapons."
Mitokado looked at Fugaku and smiled meaningfully.
"Captain Fugaku, using Konoha's rules to deplete another country's war potential while simultaneously making money. Do you still consider this a sure-fire way to aid the enemy?"
Fugaku let out a long sigh and slumped back in his chair, looking somewhat dejected.
"I originally thought that the Sharingan of the Uchiha clan could see through all illusions."
Fugaku shook his head with a wry smile.
"But now it seems that the thoughts of you politicians are far more terrifying than illusions."
Looking at Minato Namikaze, he exclaimed from the bottom of his heart:
"Minato, you've become a qualified politician. At least this kind of bloodless, insidious scheming is something I'll never learn in my lifetime."
Minato scratched his head somewhat embarrassedly: "You flatter me, senior. Most of these theories were instilled in me by Che during casual conversations. I just summarized them."
Fugaku rolled his eyes at Nishikawa Toru, "Still saying it wasn't you? You've corrupted our innocent little sun!"
The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, smiled as he looked at this group of outstanding young people, his wrinkles crinkling into a smile.
He was at ease entrusting Konoha's future to them.
