Chapter 190: Kirigakure
Chapter 190: Kirigakure
With the Third Raikage captured alive and the main force of Iwagakure retreating, this localized battle that had attracted worldwide attention finally came to an end.
Jiraiya led the Konoha troops to clean up the battlefield and reinforce fortifications to prevent the enemy from returning.
Meanwhile, on the edge of the battlefield, a four-man squad was moving through the dense forest.
"Teacher, have we gone too far?"
Obito adjusted his goggles, looking at the increasingly unfamiliar terrain around him, and asked somewhat uneasily.
"And it's so quiet around here, there aren't even any birds chirping."
"This is to ensure that no remnants of the enemy remain in hiding."
Minato Namikaze walked at the front, and although the battle was over, he did not let his guard down.
"Furthermore, we need to establish several signal relay points in the perimeter to expand our reconnaissance range. These will continue to be useful after we return to Konoha."
Kakashi followed silently behind, his short sword never sheathed.
"Obito, if you're scared, you can go back and help Guy and the others move the rocks."
Nishikawa Tetsu's squad was clearing the battlefield, while Minato's squad was responsible for reconnaissance of the surrounding area.
"Who's afraid! I just... I just felt the atmosphere was a little strange!" Obito immediately retorted.
Lin walked between the two, looking at the map in her hand: "Minato-sensei, we've already exceeded the perception range of the barrier class."
"Okay, let's set up the last point on that hill ahead, and then we'll retreat."
Minato nodded and quickened his pace.
However, the instant he landed on a thick tree trunk, an extremely faint yet chilling sense of being watched suddenly pierced his nerves.
This feeling...
Shuimen's pupils suddenly contracted.
He recalled Nishikawa Tetsu's warning from the Rain Country base:
If you ever encounter this feeling again, don't hesitate, just unleash your most powerful ninjutsu. Regardless of whether there are people around, just blow it up first.
"There it is!"
Without any warning, Minato's Flying Thunder God kunai flew out of his hand and shot straight at a patch of shadow to his side and rear.
At the same time, his figure transformed into a golden light, and the Rasengan instantly took shape in his hand.
"Rasengan!"
"boom!"
The tree trunk cracked, and wood chips flew everywhere.
But amidst the smoke and dust, there was no scene of blood and flesh flying everywhere. Instead, there was only a strange, white, plant-like figure with half its body submerged underground, giving Minato a sinister smile.
"Oh dear, we've been spotted. You're very perceptive. Yellow flash."
That's a White Zetsu.
"Don't even think about running away!"
Minato's inner alarm bells rang loudly.
Che had previously stated that this thing was even more dangerous than the Hidden Rock Cave.
If he gets away, it could pose a huge threat to Konoha.
"Flying Thunder God!"
Minato teleported again, attempting to block the White Zetsu's retreat.
However, White Zetsu's movement was extremely strange. He moved freely between trees and the ground at great speed, without any sense of chakra hindrance.
"Come and catch me! If you catch me, I'll let you... uh, let you do what? Never mind, just catch me already! Yellow flash~"
White Zetsu chuckled and fled into the depths of the forest—away from Kakashi and the others.
"You three, go back to camp first, and don't wander off. I'll be back in a bit!"
Minato turned around and said, "This location isn't too far from the Konoha camp, so if we encounter any combat, we can be rescued in time."
Without further hesitation, he sped off after Bai Jue.
That thing is too strange; we must find out its details.
Watching their teacher disappear into the depths of the dense forest, the three boys left behind looked at each other in bewilderment.
"What is that white thing...?" Obito swallowed hard, feeling a chill run down his spine.
"I don't know, but Minato-sensei is very nervous."
Kakashi gripped his short sword tightly.
"Everyone on high alert, I have a bad feeling."
The forest returned to deathly silence, broken only by the faint footsteps of the three travelers.
Sudden.
"It's getting foggy?"
Lin stretched out her hand, looking at the white mist swirling around her fingertips, somewhat puzzled.
Although the Land of Grass is rainy, this thick, impenetrable fog came too suddenly and too strangely.
"Wait! There's chakra in this mist!"
Kakashi's expression changed drastically: "It's the Hidden Mist Technique! There's an enemy!"
He reacted extremely quickly, gripping the short knife, his eyes instantly turning sharp.
"Back to back! Form a triangular formation! Don't run around!"
"What?!"
Obito looked around frantically, but all he could see was a vast expanse of white.
"Hehehe...a brat from Konoha?"
A sinister laugh came from all directions, making it impossible to tell where it was coming from.
"Over there!"
Obito's eyes narrowed, and with the dynamic vision of his Sharingan, he caught a strange disturbance in the mist.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!"
A massive fireball roared out, dispelling the fog in its path, and slammed into the enemy.
"Sizzle—"
Water vapor evaporates.
A wall of water rose out of thin air, easily blocking the giant fireball.
"The reaction is good, but the power is too weak."
Several dark figures emerged from behind the water wall, breaking through the mist. They wore masks from the Mist Shadows and wielded sharp blades, resembling several sharks hunting their prey.
This is a standard Kirigakure reconnaissance team, led by a Jonin and consisting of three Chunin.
"Lin! Use that!"
Kakashi roared, his body advancing instead of retreating, the short sword in his hand drawing a bright silver arc.
"Konoha Style: Fang Thrust!"
"Ding!"
Sparks flew everywhere.
Kakashi's short sword collided violently with the Kirigakure captain's kunai.
Although he was only six years old, after being tempered on the battlefield, Kakashi's swordsmanship already showed some resemblance to Sakumo's.
Taking advantage of his short stature, he suddenly slid in and attempted to attack his opponent's lower body.
"Kid, don't be so arrogant!"
The Mist Ninja captain sneered, then suddenly raised his knee and slammed it into Kakashi's chin.
Kakashi had to interrupt his attack and roll backward to dodge.
At the same time, two other Mist Ninjas had already pounced on Rin.
"Don't even think about touching Lin!"
Obito roared and charged forward, wildly swinging his kunai without any strategy, but his reckless momentum forced one enemy back.
"Don't underestimate medical ninjas!"
Lin took a deep breath, her eyes resolute.
Instead of hiding behind, she quickly drew the electromagnetic pistol from her waist, gripped it with both hands, and moved with perfect precision.
The gun barrel flashed with blue light.
"Bang!"
An electromagnetic projectile struck a Mist Ninja squarely in the forehead, leaving him with a look of confusion on his face.
"What kind of ninja tool is this? I've never seen this type before!"
The other fog ninjas were startled, their movements momentarily frozen.
"Now! Obito!"
"Oh! Fire Release: Phoenix Flower Technique!"
Obito seized the opportunity and hurled over a dozen fireballs of balsam flowers at the frozen Mist Ninja.
Despite their best efforts, the three managed to hold out for several minutes against the combined attacks of three other elite Kirigakure warriors, utilizing their new weapons and excellent teamwork.
But the gap in strength cannot be bridged by this small electromagnetic pistol.
"Have you had enough fun?"
The Mist Ninja captain lost his patience.
"Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Technique!"
A massive water dragon roared out of the narrow forest, crashing into the three with tremendous force.
"There's no escaping it!"
Kakashi gritted his teeth, stood in front of Rin, and tried to take the hit with his short sword.
"boom!"
The immense impact instantly shattered the three's formation.
Kakashi was hit head-on by the water dragon, and his whole body flew backward like a kite with a broken string, crashing heavily into a tree trunk. He spat out a mouthful of blood, and the short sword in his hand flew out of his hand.
"Kakashi!"
Obito tried to save her, but was ambushed from behind by a Kirigakure ninja who delivered a powerful chop to the back of his neck.
"Well……"
Obito's eyes rolled back, and he fainted.
"Obito! Kakashi!"
Lin stared in horror at her fallen companion, the electromagnetic gun in her hand still trembling.
"Don't move, little girl."
The kunai of the Mist Ninja captain was placed against her neck, and the cold touch made Rin's whole body stiffen.
"Tsk, I was only ordered to scout out the movements of Iwagakure and Konoha, but I didn't expect to catch some big fish."
The Mist Ninja Captain glanced at the three boys on the ground.
"One Uchiha, one Hatake, and a medical ninja who uses strange weapons."
"Captain, why don't you kill them?" one of his men asked.
"Idiot, capture him alive!"
The captain snapped, "Take them back for interrogation. These brats might know about Konoha's defenses, especially the weapon that girl is holding. Take it back to the Mizukage for him to study."
"Hurry up! It'll be troublesome if we encounter a large force from Konoha!"
Several Mist Ninja quickly tied up the unconscious Kakashi and Obito, carried them on their shoulders, and then, with Rin in tow, disappeared swiftly into the depths of the thick fog.
What the people in the Hidden Mist didn't know was that their captain had already been possessed by Zetsu.
The forest returned to its deathly stillness.
Only the puddle of water and the broken tree branch on the ground proved that a fierce battle had just taken place here.
