Chapter 284 Time Converter
It was another duel tournament, and Loila stood in the arena yawning.
Even though she was wearing a mask, yawning in front of so many people still made her blush and lower her head.
I think I stayed up a little too late last night because I was grading homework—and I didn't expect that I'd have to be a judge this morning!
Loila yawned again, then looked at the students on the field and pursed her lips.
Strange—why is there only one student? Isn't it supposed to be a duel?
Loila looked at the student who seemed to be from Hufflepuff Academy, wondering what was going on. She lowered her head slightly and glanced at the competition list in her hand.
This match should be between Miss Hannah Abbott of Hufflepuff House and Miss Hermione Granger of Gryffindor House.
Miss Abbott has arrived, so where is Miss Granger?
It has to be said that Miss Granger has been acting rather elusive lately. Not only at the opening ceremony that day, but Loira doesn't recall ever seeing Miss Granger sitting in a chair during class.
It's like she just appeared out of nowhere—wait—
Loila seemed to realize something, and her face beneath the mask immediately paled slightly—could it be something she was thinking?
Could Luna have guessed right again?
After all, that kind of thing is very dangerous—extremely dangerous—her body trembled slightly, and a few beads of sweat rolled down her forehead.
"Whoosh—whoosh—"
Calm down, calm down—she quickly recited her magic array notes before feeling a little better.
Even Dumbledore wouldn't do that, would he? Giving something like that to students—no, that thing itself is extremely dangerous—
Especially when it comes to wanting to control that kind of thing, it's even more so—Loila thought of the bad, or rather, the memories that frightened her the most from the past.
She couldn't help but purse her lips and take a few more deep breaths.
You're definitely overthinking it, right? According to Dad—there aren't that many of those things—
"Professor, may we begin?"
"Hmm!"
Miss Granger's sudden voice made Loila shudder. She looked up and carefully examined Miss Granger, who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.
"W--what's wrong?" Miss Granger took a small step back, a hint of panic on her face.
His body involuntarily leaned back.
'
Loila's blue eyes carefully examined the girl before her, scrutinizing her from head to toe several times.
Then she bit her lip slightly and said, "No—it's nothing."
"Phew—" Looking at the student in front of her, Loila let out a soft breath, but she felt a heavy weight pressing on her heart.
Even as the duel began, her face remained bloodless beneath the mask.
Even Nagini, who was hiding in her sleeve, sensed that something was wrong.
"Hiss hiss hiss."
She asked Loila softly what was wrong.
But she received no answer; Loila simply drooped her ears and stared intently at Miss Granger, who was waving her wand.
Until the duel ends.
Miss Granger's spellcasting abilities were so strong that students a year below her were no match for her, and she won in no time.
But—Loila took a deep breath as she looked at the pocket of her robe, then walked over.
"Wait—wait a minute, Miss Granger."
Hearing the professor's voice, Hermione, who had already walked to the sidelines and was about to leave, paused for a moment, then turned around somewhat guiltily and asked, "What's wrong, Professor?"
"You—" Loila hesitated for a few seconds before saying, "Are you—are you carrying a time-tamper?"
"Ah—no—I didn't—what is that?" Hermione waved her hands hastily and said, "What are you talking about, Professor?"
"6
'
"Buzz!"
Without a word, Loila raised her wand and aimed it at Hermione. Immediately, something flew out of Hermione's pocket and was caught by Loila in an instant.
It was a small, delicate hourglass, decorated with a design resembling a clock.
Sure enough—it was it—Loila didn't hold onto the Time Converter, but instead let it float directly in the air.
"Um—Professor, I didn't cheat!" Startled, Hermione quickly explained, "Professor McGonagall gave it to me—to allow me to take more courses—"
"And I didn't use this thing to do anything bad—"
'
'
Seeing Hermione's anxious expression, Loila pursed her lips and said, "Taking the Time-Turner is inherently—inherently—a very dangerous thing."
"Especially if you want to control time—that—that's too dangerous—"
Loila looked at the thing, and couldn't help but want to destroy it immediately, if only she didn't have this thing—if only—
If no one has this idea of controlling time—I—
dad----
Loila raised her wand and aimed it at the time converter, instinctively about to cast a spell to destroy it.
"Please wait a moment, Professor Hamilton."
But then Professor McGonagall walked over.
Her voice made Loila pause for a few seconds, then she bit her lip and looked at her.
"This is for Miss Granger," she said slowly, "and it has been approved by Headmaster Dumbledore."
"But—the Time-Turner—" Loila wanted to say something, but Professor McGonagall gave her a reassuring smile: "Miss Granger has never misused the Time-Turner; she has been using it to improve her grades."
"This is permitted at Hogwarts." She said, placing her hand on Loila's shoulder, the warmth of which gradually calmed Loila down.
Even after calming down, Loila was still filled with unease—fear—and resentment upon seeing the small hourglass.
She rarely felt this way about people or things, but the time converter did, or rather, the things it caused in the past did.
This little hourglass was not a convenient or quick tool for her—but rather a temptation, a curse destined to bring misfortune.
"Professor McGonagall—using this on students—is a bit too much—dangerous." So Loila said again, "It's dangerous."
"The Time-Turner isn't that dangerous, Professor Hamilton," McGonagall said, somewhat puzzled. "Hogwarts has strict limitations on the Time-Turners it gives to its students, and the Ministry of Magic also—"
"But it once—"
"Miss Hamilton."
Just as Loila was about to say something, Dumbledore slowly walked out, still looking as calm and collected as ever.
"Professor McGonagall, please take Miss Granger down to rest," Dumbledore said slowly, then gently flicked his hand, sending the Time-Turner back into Hermione's body.
Seeing this, Loila's wand trembled slightly, but because Dumbledore was there, she ultimately did not take any action.
As Professor McGonagall led Hermione away, Dumbledore slowly said, "We all have regrets and resentments in our lives."
"But we can't hate innocent things because of this." He said, reaching out and placing his hand on Loila's head. "Miss Hamilton, I'm sorry for what you've been through."
"
"No—it's okay—" Loila said softly, head down, "I'm also very—sorry—"
Loila realized she might have overreacted—although—but they were just students, she wouldn't act like her father—
After all, very few people have the same talent as Dad.
"I don't think Miss Granger would mind," Dumbledore said with a slight smile.
"And I'm also very grateful for your warning to her." Dumbledore ruffled Loira's hair again, causing her to involuntarily take a few steps back.
But Dumbledore continued to smile as if he hadn't seen it.
"Sometimes people should indeed learn to respect time, but certainly not fear it, right?"
