Chapter 1170 - 1159: When the Daughter Is the Supporting Role and the Younger Sister Is the Protagonist

Two police officers, a man and a woman, accompanied Ye Qiu as they went in. At first, no one paid much attention, but as Ye Qiu began questioning, everyone grew more focused.

"I heard you have a daughter?"

The driver instantly tensed up but forced himself to stay calm: "Yes."

"So you weren’t afraid that drunk driving might break your daughter’s heart? Even if nothing happened, getting caught by the traffic police for DUI would get you locked up. Your daughter is having surgery next month, don’t you want to be there with her mom?"

"I was just confused for a moment, I didn’t mean to hit your car, I’m sorry."

"It’s not me you’re apologizing to, it’s your daughter. Have you thought about how disappointed she would be not to see you before her surgery? Doctors say that emotional states can influence recovery. Have you considered that if something happened to me, your daughter would have to bear the label of having a murderer as a father?" Ye Qiu asked again.

The driver’s emotions were getting worked up: "I’m sorry, I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to, I was just too worried about my daughter’s illness, that’s why I drank."

"Okay, let’s say it wasn’t intentional drunk driving, but I was very clear in the car at the time. Obviously, I dodged several times, why did you still keep after me? Was no one really instructing you?"

"No, I just drank too much, my mind wasn’t clear."

"But the examination afterward showed that the alcohol in your blood wasn’t enough to leave you so unclear. I suspect you’re lying."

"I’m not."

"Oh really? Have you thought about it, aside from me, there was another person in that car blocked there. If I hadn’t crashed the car into the barrier, your truck would have hit my car and then hit hers. She’s only twenty-five, and she’s pregnant. How could you be so heartless?"

"I didn’t, I wasn’t intentional, I really wasn’t," the truck driver cried out, clutching his head in agony.

"But there’s no evidence now to prove you didn’t do it on purpose. My dashcam clearly shows the expression on your face wasn’t that of someone unclear from being drunk, but rather gritting your teeth, as if deliberate. So no matter how you argue, you will be sentenced, and it won’t be light."

Hearing Ye Qiu, the truck driver fell silent, lowering his head, seeming very remorseful.

"Perhaps some charity organizations might pay for your daughter’s surgery, but what then? Your daughter only has you as her closest relative. Do you think your extended family would adopt the frail daughter of a criminal? Even if adopted, she would still live a life dependent on others and pointed at by everyone."

Seeing the truck driver looking at her with red eyes, Ye Qiu continued, "But in most cases, your daughter would be sent to an orphanage. You should know the situation there; although systems have improved, given your daughter’s health problems, do you think she would receive proper care?"

"No way, my daughter is so sweet, someone will take good care of her," the truck driver said with a look of certainty.

Ye Qiu smiled again: "Are you referring to the mastermind behind this? Rest assured, I won’t deliberately torment your daughter but will closely monitor her life afterward. As for who will give her special care, I’ll investigate thoroughly. These things you’re reluctant to speak of now will be uncovered sooner or later. It’s just a matter of time. But by then, your current admissions will be meaningless, and hiding things could even increase your sentence. Do you think by the time you’re released, how old will your daughter be? Will she forgive you for the hardships and insults she endured?"

"You’re despicable, shameless!" The driver suddenly burst out, longing to hit Ye Qiu, but was restrained by the two police.

"How am I despicable or shameless? I have no intention of dealing with your daughter. I won’t interfere with which orphanage she goes to or what treatment she receives. I just want to find out the real reason for the car accident." Ye Qiu coldly stared at him, "I run a big business and can proudly say I’ve never done anything to betray my conscience, but you? Does what you’re doing sit well with your daughter?"

The truck driver fell silent again, and Ye Qiu smiled slightly: "We both know clearly if there’s a mastermind behind it. Your look at me before jumping into the lake was crystal clear to me. I advise you to confess honestly; maybe I’ll offer the maximum support to your daughter in the orphanage afterward. I do a lot of charity every year, this is just one more item. But if you don’t speak, I’ll have someone watch, making sure that person doesn’t dare help your daughter even a bit. Think it over. I don’t have time to waste on you."

After Ye Qiu finished, he was about to open the door to leave when the truck driver finally lifted his head, voice hoarse: "I’ll tell, I’ll tell everything."

Upon hearing this, the police watching the conversation exchanged glances, then switched in two different people for the interrogation.

Ye Yun looked at her elder sister Ye Qiu with complex feelings, unsure why her heart was filled with such anxiety, sensing something beyond her control was about to happen.

"Look, he’s going to reveal the mastermind. Soon, we can take Aunt Mei home," Ye Qiu calmly smiled at Ye Yun.

Ye Yun nodded heavily, her gaze unblinking on the interrogation room.

"Tell me, who’s the mastermind? How did you contact each other?" one of the officers sternly asked.

"It was Mei Chunli who directed me," the truck driver said with a face ashen as death.

Seeing all this, Ye Yun was stunned, her eyes widening, not daring to look at Ye Qiu, while she sharply sensed Ye Qiu’s hand that was caressing her head had stopped.

"No lies, confess truthfully," the officer urged again.

Ye Yun was anxious, eyes fiery, hoping the truck driver would claim it was a joke, or that he was lying, but the situation was just the opposite of what she wished for.

"I’m not lying, it was Mei Chunli who approached me, wanting me to help use the car accident to kill her stepdaughter," he continued.

"When did she contact you?"

"Last month, when my daughter was sick, we came here for a check-up. She came to the hospital after learning about it and then offered me the deal."

"What evidence do you have that she directed you? Why did you agree to her proposal?"

Ye Yun prayed in her heart, hoping, if it was indeed her Mom, there wouldn’t be any evidence. Otherwise... otherwise...

She even lightened her breath, scared to think of what the outcome would be.
