Chapter 127 Don't Mind Your Own Business
"Uncle Kakuzu, I heard that Konan is going to find you a new partner. She's said to be immortal, and she'd be a perfect match for you."
Before Kakudo could respond, Lone Star continued, "Uncle, you should go back to Amegakure first. I have some things to take care of, and I'll go back in a few days."
"By the way, should we divide the money first?"
Before he could finish speaking, Kakuzu handed him a box, saying, "I've already divided them up."
"Hey... this box is yours."
"Uncle, you're getting better and better at this." Lone Star smiled as he took the box and then sealed it inside a scroll.
Having obtained the items, Lone Star expressed his intention to leave, saying, "Uncle Kakuzu, I'll be going now."
Kakuzu watched her departing figure, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes. In the past, this little girl would have been eager to return to her room at the main camp and sleep for several days and nights.
Although she sometimes acts mysteriously and I don't know what she's busy with, all I know is that whenever she's busy, she's bound to get into trouble, and every time the leader has to clean up after her without telling me. "What a twisted relationship!"
"What kind of commotion will they cause this time?" Kakuzu wondered, resting his chin on his hand. He had learned to 'watch the show' from the little girl, which was another thing that interested him besides money when he joined Akatsuki.
As for her new partner, Kakuzu scoffed at it.
"Why did you come back alone?" Pain asked in confusion when he saw that Kakuzu was the only one there.
"Lone Star said she has some things to take care of and won't be back for the time being."
"This is the money I earned from this mission."
Kakuzu handed over the box in his hand, only to find that the leader was no longer there.
He seemed unfazed and handed the box to Xiao Nan beside him.
Konan took the box and said, "Thank you for your hard work!" Then she said, "Kakuzu, tomorrow you and Sasori will come with me to recruit a new member."
"As for Lone Star, Pain has arranged for her to participate in the Chunin Exams." After giving these instructions, Konan picked up her suitcase and left.
"The Chunin Exams, such a distant concept," Kakuzu murmured, and then left the place.
"What should I do?" Lone Star pondered, a blade of grass dangling from his lips as he leaned against a large tree.
"Don't do anything, come back with me." A familiar voice boomed in her ear.
Lone Star jumped up in fright, "Boss Pain, what are you doing here?" She was clearly far away from Amegakure.
"I have an important mission for you to carry out," Pain said directly.
Upon hearing this, Lone Star immediately refused, "I'm not going to participate in the Chunin Exams, don't even think about it!"
How did you know about the Chunin Exams?
"You're not going back because you suspect I'll send you?"
Pain suddenly fired off two questions in quick succession.
"That's right, I'm quite clever." Lone Star accepted his praise, not forgetting to praise himself as well.
Pain stared into her eyes. "Give me a reason."
“I just don’t want to go, there are no other reasons.” After she finished speaking, she turned her head to the side and refused to look at him. “Otherwise, she can’t say that she’s afraid her spirit clone will run into her main body, can she?”
"That's not up to you." Pain grabbed her hand and said coldly.
"Why are you always like this, always getting handsy?" Lone Star struggled, his wrist grabbed, and he looked speechless.
Pain ignored her, seemingly noticing something, and asked in a questioning tone, "Where's the ring on your hand?"
"A ring? What ring?" Lone Star was momentarily confused and didn't understand.
Seeing this, Pain's anger surged.
Lone Star noticed his increasingly puzzled expression. "What ring made this guy so angry? I hope she won't get a beating!" She closed her eyes in fear.
"Heh... now you know fear." Seeing her like this, Pain's anger instantly dissipated, and he looked at her with amusement.
"How could I possibly be afraid of you!" Upon hearing this, Gu Xing opened her eyes and retorted defiantly, showing that she hadn't backed down at all.
"But the ring you're talking about isn't this, is it?"
As if struck by a thought, Lone Star revealed the black cord around his neck, with a 'Vermilion' ring hanging from it.
"Why did you decide to wear it around your neck?" Payne's eyes flickered slightly, and his tone softened considerably.
Lone Star glanced at him as if he were an idiot. "You're meddling in this too? Aren't you being a bit too nosy?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she was picked up and carried.
"Let me go!"
"When you can't win an argument, you resort to this." She struggled for a short while, then gave up. "Could it be that the talisman on her body can really control her? Otherwise, how come she can't exert any strength?"
"Ugh... How boring!" Lone Star sighed, becoming languid and resting his head on Pain's chest. "Aren't there plenty of ninjas in Amegakure? Why do I have to take the Chunin Exams?"
“You’re quite capable; you can gather more intelligence.” Payne thought for a moment and came up with a reason.
"Gathering intelligence?" Lone Star withdrew his hand, which was about to secretly touch his chest muscles, and exclaimed in surprise. He then said, "Just ask me for intelligence. You don't need to take the Chunin Exams."
"The Hidden Rain Village cannot let anyone know that it has changed owners yet."
"We have to go to the Chunin Exams," Pain explained.
Lone Star said "Oh," and added, "That has nothing to do with me. Anyway, I'm not going unless you come with me."
She coldly refused, then came up with a clever idea: "This should be safe now."
“Okay,” Payne agreed immediately.
"You can? How can you say you can? You're the leader of Akatsuki. Going there would be nothing but bullying." She said with an annoyed expression.
"This guy did it on purpose, he definitely did it on purpose." Lone Star strongly suspected that he was trying to cause trouble.
"Could you please stop moving your hands?" Payne took a deep breath before continuing, "I granted your request, so why are you still unhappy? What are you afraid of?"
“Fear? There’s no word for fear in the vocabulary I know,” she said defiantly.
"That would be best." Pain raised an eyebrow, a faint smile curving his lips.
"I'm so angry, it's like she's fallen into a pit." Lone Star buried her head in his chest, not wanting to see his face. "Now I can't fight back, and I can't run away. It's so frustrating."
Lone Star brought some comfort to her heart as she brought up her character panel. "With a little more effort, I can advance to the Golden Core stage. When that happens... hehehe... she'll definitely make Payne pay a thousand times over."
Hearing the faint laughter, Pain knew she was definitely planning something again.
However... no matter what she plans, she can't escape his grasp; he won't let her leave.
Payne was startled by his own thoughts, but quickly came to terms with it, "It's all for the Eye of the Moon Project."
If Lone Star knew what he was thinking, he would definitely spit on him, saying, "What does the Eye of the Moon project have to do with her? Don't drag her into this for no reason."
