Chapter 606 The Kind-hearted Fugaku
Chapter 606 The Kind-hearted Fugaku
"You're here, Sasuke. How's the situation outside today?"
Inside the guard headquarters, Fugaku Uchiha looked up, put down the documents in his hand, and smiled as his son walked in.
"Still the same old story." Sasuke strode into the police station's lobby, his voice laced with barely suppressed frustration. "Still a bunch of idiots who only know how to gossip behind people's backs. I think we need to extend their detention. Let them reflect on their actions in there."
"Yeah, you've worked hard. This isn't something that can be done in a day or two, don't overwork yourself. Let's finish this quickly—" Fugaku said, his gaze passing over Sasuke's shoulder and landing on the two figures behind him, "Who are these two people?"
There was only one person in the Uchiha police force, and he was someone they knew very well... but not very well either.
Naruto stood behind Sasuke, his gaze fixed on the middle-aged man sitting upright in the chair.
He recognized the face—short black hair, the features—deep, hard lines, and an imposing presence… uh. He stammered inwardly.
He recognized that face all too well; it was Satsuki's father, Uchiha Fugaku of this world.
However, Naruto blinked to make sure he wasn't seeing things.
However, he looked at the newcomer with a kind and friendly smile on his face.
His entire aura had undergone a complete 180-degree turn from the one Naruto was familiar with. That smile completely neutralized the sternness that was originally etched on his face, leaving people momentarily unsure how to react.
"Just passengers." Sasuke turned his head and nodded to the two people behind him. "For some reason, I need to arrange their accommodations for today. Don't worry about it, it's nothing serious."
"Travelers?" Fugaku's face showed a hint of surprise. "That's quite unusual. Where are you from? Have you completed the entry procedures for Konoha? But since Sasuke said it's not a big deal, I won't ask any further..."
Fugaku's gaze stopped when it swept over Satsuki's face. He stared at Satsuki, his brows furrowing slightly, but not in a wary way.
Strange, he thought. What's going on? Is it just his imagination?
Why did he feel a sense of familiarity with this young woman? Even the way she stood there gave him a special feeling of warmth.
"...Sorry, it's nothing." Fugaku realized he had been staring at them for too long, quickly looked away, nodded slightly to Satsuki, and sincerely apologized, "Please don't mind. I guess I was just seeing things. It's easy to do that when you get older. I hope I made you feel uncomfortable."
Naruto watched as Fugaku nodded apologetically in his direction, his manner gentle and polite. Naruto subconsciously rubbed his arms, feeling a chill run down his spine. Had even Fugaku changed? he thought to himself.
The person who was originally difficult to talk to and had an imposing presence without being angry has become... uh... kind? Putting this word together with Uchiha Fugaku just feels awkward no matter how you look at it.
But the person in front of him had a smile on his face and a gentle attitude; he couldn't find a more suitable word to describe him than "kind."
Satsuki also looked at Fugaku Uchiha in this world with a curious gaze. This world's father really had a good temper. Was he this friendly to Naruto too?
Sasuke ignored the fascinating expressions on the faces of the two people behind him, and made no comment on his father's gaze.
He turned and walked toward a room deeper inside the police force.
"It's just me and my son here." Fugaku noticed the confusion on Naruto and Satsuki's faces, their eyes darting around, and patiently explained, his voice calm and steady, "Actually, the Uchiha Police Force was abandoned many years ago. After the clan was wiped out, this clan territory became one of the quietest places in Konoha."
"The restart here happened a few years ago. Sasuke took the initiative to suggest rebuilding the police force."
After hearing these words, Naruto nodded thoughtfully. In this world, Sasuke not only did not betray the village, but also personally re-established the Uchiha Police Force. This setting is somewhat similar to Tsunade's Infinite Tsukuyomi, but not entirely the same.
"Please forgive me this time! I promise it won't happen again! Really! I swear!"
"Please! I promise I'll change my ways! Please don't put me in jail! I really know I was wrong! I'll never do it again!"
Suddenly, a terrified pleas for mercy erupted from behind the door Sasuke was walking towards. Then, there was a series of sparse noises, and after a moment, the door was pulled open from the inside, and Sasuke walked out of the room.
His face was gloomy, and his eyes still held a lingering sense of irritation and disgust. He raised his hand and rubbed his cuff with his fingers.
"A bunch of scum..."
He wiped his hands, looked up, took a deep breath, and then spoke. "...There's nothing to see, it's all taken care of. Let's go, don't stand here any longer."
"Excuse me—" Satsuki's gaze passed over Sasuke's shoulder and landed on the closed door, "What did the person inside do wrong?"
To be honest, it's a pretty strange feeling. Watching myself in another world working as a police officer.
"...None of your business."
"Defamation."
However, Fugaku explained, "Most of the people Sasuke captures are on this charge. It's never changed from the beginning until now."
"dad!"
"Sasuke," Fugaku's tone remained calm and unhurried, "How many times have I told you not to be so cold? When you talk to someone, at least turn your face around and speak clearly. Look at the attitude you had when you were talking to that girl just now. If you're always like this, you're pushing everyone away."
"Dad, I don't mean to nag you, but think about it, if things continue like this..." He sighed, "when will I ever see your wedding?"
"...Huh?" Sasuke's expression cracked.
"Haven't I made myself clear enough?" Fugaku looked up at his son. "Now, the Uchiha clan is down to just you, me, and your mother. The responsibility of revitalizing the Uchiha clan has fallen on your shoulders, but look at you, always with that long face. When will I, as your father, ever be able to hold my grandson?"
"Who was discussing this with you!"
Seeing his son's expression, Fugaku stopped nagging. He turned to Naruto and Satsuki, his smile still gentle and kind, his tone warm and sincere. "Although I don't know why you asked Sasuke for a favor, following him all this way must have taken its toll on you. He's always been like this, so as his father, I apologize on his behalf. I hope you can be more understanding; he's not a bad person."
After saying that, he placed his hands on his knees, lowered his head, and leaned forward slightly.
"...Oh, I see." Naruto felt like his brain had frozen a bit.
He straightened up somewhat stiffly, trying to appear as rude as possible: "Um... what exactly do you mean by 'defamation'?"
Fugaku looked up, his smile turning somewhat bitter. "...Because there have been some...very outrageous rumors circulating in Konoha. It hasn't just started today or yesterday; it's been going on for many years, and it hasn't completely stopped. You're from outside the village, so you don't hear about these things."
"Most of the villagers connected the ominous events together and blamed the disaster on a completely unrelated person. They placed all their bets on an innocent person. The rumors they spread were increasingly horrible."
He sighed heavily. "Sasuke has always been unable to tolerate this kind of thing since he was a child. Not to mention, that person is..."
"So, when we were kids, he would often bring it up to me, saying that he would reactivate the Uchiha Police Force and personally bring back all those who had harmed others because of rumors, and deal with them according to the rules, without letting a single one go."
"...Dad! You're talking too much! Why are you saying all this to two passengers!"
"Huh? Really?" Fugaku was taken aback by his son's shout, and scratched the back of his head. "But... there's nothing wrong with explaining it to them, right? It's not like it's anything shameful. On the contrary, I think more people should know about this anyway."
"dad!"
"Okay, okay, I won't say anymore, I won't say anymore."
Fugaku raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, looking at Sasuke's furious expression. "Seriously, you're my son, yet you didn't inherit any of my personality? You're all talk and no action, why did you inherit your mother's personality?"
