Chapter 43 Why don't you just become a Celestial Venerable?
The moment he received the blessing of the Celestial Venerable status, Rosen sensed something, which made him look up at the Source Castle in front of him. Then he snapped his fingers, activating the power of the Source Castle.
So, the Source Castle, which had just been ignoring them, opened its doors at this moment, and then steps made of light formed in front of the two of them, as if welcoming its master back.
This sudden change startled Klein, but then he seemed to sense something and said thoughtfully, "I... I think I can sense it welcoming us."
"That's normal, after all, we're practically his masters now." Rosen said, stepping onto the stairs and passing through the thick gray fog. In the process, he saw a huge palace that resembled the dwelling of giants, which was obviously the place where the Tarot Society would meet in the future.
After that, Rosen stepped onto a gray cloud, above which was a gate, a gate of brilliant light tinged with a bluish-black hue, composed of many layers upon layers of bubbles. But if you looked closely, you would find that those bubbles were not real bubbles, but rather transparent insects.
Above the gate of light are hanging transparent cocoons, and you can see that a different soul is sleeping inside each cocoon.
Rosen's gaze swept among these "transmigrators" and he quickly found an empty cocoon, which clearly belonged to the first transmigrator sent down from the Source Castle, the Goddess of Night, Amanisis.
Not far from the Goddess of the Night, Zhou Mingrui, whose face was noticeably more mature and who was most likely already a competent office worker, was quietly sleeping in another cocoon.
"Hello, Fool."
Rosen silently greeted the other person in his mind, then turned his head to look at the cotton doll on his shoulder and asked, "How does it feel to see your future self?"
"...I don't know, it's strange." Klein shook his head. He simply stared at himself inside the cocoon of light, then looked at the other cocoons. After staring for a long time, Klein suddenly said:
"Do you think that if they just stay asleep like this, sleeping until the future and then returning to the real world, they might think they've just traveled to another world? Would they desperately try to find a way home, only to discover in the end that they haven't left home at all, they've just been sleeping for too long?"
Klein's voice was somewhat dazed; he seemed to be talking about other people, yet also about his own future.
Rosen listened quietly to him finish speaking before saying, "At least they survived, which is already luckier than many others."
"Yes, they survived, while many more died in that disaster." Klein raised his hand, seemingly touching the cocoons of light from afar, and continued:
"Although I've been very scared lately, I've never really had a concrete idea of the disaster you're talking about. It's in the sky. I believe what you're saying. I'm terrified of it, but I can't imagine what kind of disaster it would be."
"But looking at these people now, at these survivors, I think I can imagine it." Klein turned to Rosen and suddenly asked, "Rosen, I've never asked you before, what exactly caused that disaster?"
"I didn't tell you before because you weren't of high enough status then, and knowing the truth might have brought danger. Now..." Rosen's gaze fell on the Celestial Emblem on Klein's chest, and after a moment, he said, "Your civilization was destroyed by the awakened First Creator."
Klein was stunned. He had heard Rosen describe the Third Age, so he knew that there was a creator in this world. This creator did not refer to the current Sun God, but to an earlier, fallen, true creator.
But Klein never imagined that his era would be destroyed by that creator.
"Why?" Klein asked almost instinctively. "Isn't He the creator? Why would He want to destroy our era?"
Rosen sighed before saying, "The Creator did not intentionally destroy your era; He simply awakened, that's all."
"Huh?" Klein was stunned for a moment, then he couldn't help but laugh, not out of joy, but out of anger.
Because Klein understood Rosen's meaning—the Creator did not intentionally destroy humanity, but just as humanity can bring natural disasters to ants without intention, the Creator does not need to do anything intentionally; the mere aftereffects of His awakening are enough to bring devastating blows to human civilization.
In other words, humans were merely collateral damage.
That's ridiculous!
Their world, their civilization, those countless lives were not deliberately killed or destroyed, but merely wiped out by the unintentional actions of a god.
"Why?" After laughing, Klein felt a sense of exhaustion and confusion again.
"Because humanity is too weak," Rosen replied, looking at Klein. "Because we are weak, we will be destroyed by the collateral damage caused by the Creator's awakening, just like us now. Because we are weak, we are powerless against the Creator."
Klein clenched his fists at that moment. For the first time in his life, he felt an indescribable powerlessness, which was followed by a surge of anger.
Anger at the Creator for destroying their homeland, anger at their own weakness, anger at fate.
Klein had never craved power as much as he did now.
Klein couldn't help but look at Rosen, and even though he already had the answer, he still couldn't help but ask again, "Is there really no way to stop all of this from happening?"
"At least I can't do it right now." Rosen shook his head, then changed the subject, saying, "But based on the information I've gathered recently, perhaps there's still a chance."
All the groundwork has been laid; it's time to guide Klein to focus his attention on the position of the Lord of Mysteries.
Klein looked at him almost anxiously and asked, "What turning point?"
"I am just an ordinary angel, unable to stop the original creator from resurrecting, but the Celestial Venerable might have a sliver of a chance. Even if He can't do it, at least with the Celestial Venerable's power, He could save more people in the disaster," Rosen said. After Klein's eyes lit up, he suddenly changed the subject, saying:
"But the Celestial Venerable will not help us."
Rosen bluntly stated, "The Celestial Venerable is an extremely cruel god. Don't think that just because He saved you, He is some kind of benevolent god. In fact, according to the information I recently found, everyone who was saved by the Celestial Venerable during the apocalypse, including you, has only one purpose: to serve as His resurrection vessel."
Klein's gaze dimmed, and he finally understood why he had survived as a "lucky one"—he had been used as a vessel for resurrection.
To be honest, at that moment, Klein had a feeling that he knew it was true; he knew there was no such thing as a free lunch.
"But!" Rosen suddenly raised his voice, bringing the situation to a new turn. He smiled and took the cotton doll off his shoulder, casually manipulated the gray mist to make a stand, and placed Klein on it.
Rosen and Klein exchanged a glance, then Rosen said with a bright smile, "It's alright if the Celestial Venerable doesn't help, you can just become the Celestial Venerable yourself!"
