Chapter 30 The Actors' Tea Party
Chapter 30 The Actors' Tea Party
After the shadowy figure Li Mu disappeared, something else appeared on the bed.
Lu Dan reached out and picked it up. It was a piece of drawing paper covered in vibrant colors with crayons. The colors were highly saturated, completely out of place in this gray and white world. Although the style was extremely childish, it exuded a chilling sense of realism.
On the left side of the image stand two enormous figures: a giant with many arms, dressed in a Zhongshan suit, and a huge mouth that occupies almost a third of the image.
Opposite them stood several tiny human figures, the one at the very front, bearing the monster, was a blood-red figure with no skin.
Lu Dan's pupils contracted slightly as his gaze shifted downwards.
In the corner of the picture, there is a one-man show for him—a dark figure in a security guard uniform is wrestling with another shadow in the same uniform.
"Did you even predict what would happen next?"
Lu Dan folded the painting and stuffed it into his pocket. Before he could think about it, the floor beneath his feet suddenly trembled violently.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
The dark figures on the other three beds in the dormitory suddenly sprang up. They had no facial features, but let out a shrill roar and rushed out of the room like frightened mice.
Lu Dan followed closely behind and rushed out of 501.
The corridor was in complete chaos. Countless dark figures poured out of the various dormitories, like a black torrent, rushing downstairs in a frenzy.
But this torrent underwent a strange change when it passed by Lu Dan.
The smiling human skins hanging from the ceiling seemed to sense something and began to sway wildly.
The dark figures running ahead seemed to have sensed the presence of Lu Dan, this anomaly. They stopped, their bodies began to flicker violently, and their ethereal outlines gradually solidified.
"Rip—"
Several dark figures suddenly leaped up and burrowed into the hanging human skin.
The shriveled human skin instantly filled out, and red light shone from the empty eye sockets. They were no longer "clothes" fluttering in the wind, but evil spirits with the instinct to hunt.
The monsters turned their heads, perfect smiles on their lips, and pounced on Lu Dan.
"What a warm welcome ceremony!"
Lu Dan cursed and, dragging his almost numb left leg, frantically dodged and weaved amidst the pursuit and interception of the human-skin monster.
A monster dressed in human skin grabbed his shoulder, its sharp nails digging into his flesh.
Lu Dan gritted his teeth and swung the flashlight hard at the monster's face, denting its skin.
Lu Dan seized the opportunity to break free from the monster, and a new wound burst open on his back, dripping with blood, but he no longer cared about the pain.
The small door to the dormitory supervisor's office is right in front of us.
Although it was only a dozen meters away, it felt like an insurmountable chasm at that moment.
Behind them was a vast army of human skins, and in front of them was an encirclement that was about to close in.
He struggled to charge forward, blood streaming down his body. With a roar, he unbuckled his belt and hurled it, knocking over a monster blocking the doorway.
Then, like a bowling ball, he tumbled and crawled through the door and into the house.
"Bang!"
He turned around and braced himself against the door, locking it from the inside.
A series of scratching and banging sounds came from outside the door.
But as Li Mu said, this house refuses to let anything dirty from the outside in.
Lu Dan slumped to the ground, panting heavily, feeling as if his lungs were about to explode.
Just then, the world before my eyes began to appear double. Several figures gradually emerged in the empty dormitory manager's room, like two negatives slowly overlapping to develop a complete photograph.
He saw Li Mu, covered in blood, holding Su Ke; he saw Bao Ping, who had lost an ear; and he saw Lin Xiaoxiao and Zhang Kai, who looked like they had survived a disaster.
The two worlds overlapped at that moment.
Immediately afterwards, all colors faded away, space froze, and time stood still.
The blood-soaked Li Mu, Su Ke in his arms, and Zhang Kai leaning against the wall were instantly covered with a layer of gray stone texture, maintaining their original postures and turning into three lifelike statues.
A countdown appeared on Lu Dan's wrist: 30 minutes.
"call......"
Lin Xiaoxiao let out a long sigh and collapsed to the ground, completely losing her composure. "This safe house trigger was truly terrifying."
She turned to look at Lu Dan, who had appeared out of nowhere. The impact of seeing him in the mirror was nothing compared to seeing him in real life. Even though she had a strong mentality, she couldn't help but gasp.
Lu Dan looked less than human. His left arm was twisted grotesquely, his security guard uniform was torn to shreds, and there wasn't a single patch of uninjured flesh on his body. Blood stained a large area of the ground. Yet, he remained calmly leaning against the door, his eyes eerily clear.
"It's alright, I won't die." Lu Dan forced a smile, his voice hoarse.
"Tsk tsk tsk, now that's a real ruthless person!"
Bao Ping, clutching his still-bleeding right cheek, pulled a dirty little tin box from his pocket. He looked at the box with a pained expression, then gritted his teeth and poured out two red candies that smelled sweet like strawberries.
"Here you go." Bao Ping tossed one of the pills to Lu Dan, and stuffed the other into his own mouth.
Recycled Candy
[Effect: Rapidly repairs non-fatal injuries by overdrawing cellular potential.]
[Note: Eat less, or you might grow a third hand or a second head!]
Price: 40 points/piece
The candy melts in your mouth, and a warm current instantly flows through your body.
The granulation tissue at the site where Bao Ping's ear was bitten off and his scalp was torn was writhing wildly, and within seconds a thick scab formed, and the bleeding stopped.
Lu Dan didn't stand on ceremony. After swallowing the candy, a tingling, itchy sensation came from his broken ribs. Although his left arm was still immobile, the feeling of weakness, as if he could die at any moment, had finally subsided considerably.
"Thanks." Lu Dan glanced at Bao Ping. "These points are not a small amount for anyone."
"We're all in the same boat." Bao Ping waved his hand, his sleazy demeanor toning down a bit, revealing a shrewd look. "Now that the plot is paused and there are no outsiders here, we should have a meeting."
The three of them exchanged glances.
"I really didn't expect this script to be this difficult, yet we've managed to keep it going until now," Bao Ping said first. "This dorm supervisor and that dean of students, this script definitely has a dual boss setup."
"It's hard to say." Lin Xiaoxiao shook her head and pointed to Li Mu, who had turned into a blood-soaked figure. "This blood-soaked figure without skin should be Li Mu. He actually managed to fight the dorm supervisor head-on. His fighting ability is not like that of an ordinary character in the story."
Lu Dan leaned against the wall, took out the colorful painting from his pocket, and spread it on the ground: "I found this on his bed. The child drew the whole back."
The three of them surrounded the painting, the contents of which were particularly shocking.
"Big Mouth is the dorm supervisor, and Multi-Handed Monster is the head of student affairs." Lin Xiaoxiao pointed to the monster in the drawing. "The rest of us are standing over here, while Li Mu is standing at the very front tanking the monsters, which means he's the main tank in this scenario."
"And this too." Lu Dan pointed to the two security guards in the corner. "Judging from this, I'm not the only security guard at this school. And—" He paused, then pointed to the clock on the dormitory manager's office wall, "My mission isn't finished yet. No matter how the plot unfolds, as a security guard, I have to clock in."
"While you guys are discussing how to defeat the boss, I have to do my job first. Otherwise, I'll be wiped out by the rules before the boss even makes a move."
"I give you full marks for your dedication." Bao Ping gave a thumbs up.
