Chapter 585 The Mysterious Room
Did Dumbledore assemble an army at the school specifically to deal with Cornelius Fudge?
Umbridge not only believed this news, which others would find laughable, but he was also completely convinced of it, and he was as excited as if he had discovered a treasure hidden by fairies.
Perhaps realizing that Fred and George hadn't really done anything unnecessary, she reluctantly shifted her focus elsewhere and began tracking and investigating the students who seemed suspicious to her.
But in the end, nothing was gained.
Having carried out the operation for so long, Hermione and Cedric had already perfectly resolved all the problems that had surfaced.
Students no longer take the stairs directly to the eighth floor.
Fred and George provided three more secret passages inside the castle, two of which led from the first-floor hall to the sixth floor, and the third was next to the library, with the exit behind a statue to the left of the portrait of the Fat Lady on the eighth floor.
With these three secret passages, students participating in S·D·A will not have their whereabouts exposed due to the location of the common room.
After class, Cedric would arrange for other people to wait at the entrances of each staircase before notifying the people inside to open the door, only after confirming it was safe.
After someone leaves the House of Requirement, they will leave through a secret passage.
Despite such meticulous planning, Umbridge investigated for half a month but couldn't even catch a glimpse of them.
Tomorrow is exam week, and if they can't catch those people by then, Hogwarts will be on holiday, and they'll have even less chance to find Dumbledore's secret.
However, at this crucial moment, Umbridge did not appear too angry—because she had another gain.
While tracking Hannah Abbott of Hufflepuff, she unexpectedly spotted Fred and George setting up a portable swamp and, after a chase, successfully captured them.
If you were to ask Umbridge who her most hated people are, Fred and George would definitely be in the top three of that list.
So when she caught the two guys red-handed for violating school rules, a surge of joy welled up inside her, as if she had just gulped down a mouthful of warm cherry syrup soda on a cold winter morning, and every taut nerve was cheering with delight.
"Do you have anything else to say?"
Umbridge's voice grew even higher and shriller, and she looked down with a victorious air at the trembling, terrified girl.
Fred and George collapsed to the ground.
"Oh dear, it's all your fault! I told you we couldn't be here, but you insisted it was fine!"
Fred shoved George hard, his voice filled with exasperated anger.
"How can you blame me? It was clearly your negligence that prevented you from noticing someone approaching in time!"
George also kicked Fred without hesitation.
"You idiot!"
"idiot!"
The two complained about each other, and eventually they even started fighting in front of Umbridge.
But Umbridge, as the professor, did not stop it. She simply took a half step back, elegantly folded her hands in front of her, a satisfied smile playing on her lips, watching the chaotic struggle with great interest, a strange sense of pleasure gleaming in her eyes.
Unfortunately, this wonderful performance did not last long.
"Are we going to get fired?!"
Fred suddenly asked.
Umbridge was still basking in the thrill of revenge and didn't react for a moment. After a few seconds, she said with feigned regret, "I'm sorry, but if everything goes well, you will be leaving Hogwarts in ten minutes."
"But we have our exams coming up soon."
George said nervously, "NEWT, this is what we've been doing at Hogwarts all these years."
"Oh, that's a pity."
Umbridge's smile widened, this time not with her usual fake grin, but with a genuine, almost intoxicating joy welling up from within.
"What if I told you the location of Dumbledore's Army?"
"Shut up, are you crazy?"
Before Umbridge could speak, Fred punched George in the face, yelling, "Damn it, do you want to be a traitor?!"
"I just don't want to get fired!"
George immediately retaliated by punching Fred.
"We're graduating soon, and if we don't even have a NEWT certificate, we won't be able to find jobs!"
"So what? At least we're not traitors!"
"That sounds nice, but those guys don't treat us like one of their own!"
George, his face flushed, shouted, "Look what they've made us do! Stand guard, keep watch, transport the other members—what are we, Filch? At least Filch had the right to punish students!"
The two argued more and more fiercely and started fighting again, but they were quickly separated by an invisible force.
Umbridge put away her wand and stared intently at them—or rather, at George.
"You mean you know where those insurgents are?"
"Yes I know."
George said.
"Tell me now, right now!"
"No!"
Fred, standing nearby, shouted, "No—uh—!"
Before he could finish speaking, his mouth seemed to be blocked by something, and he could only mumble and be unable to speak.
"I----"
George looked conflicted: "I can tell you, but you have to promise not to fire us."
"Oh, of course."
Umbridge said in her sweet, cloying voice, "If you can tell me everything you know, you won't be expelled."
"two!"
George said.
"What?"
"Neither Fred nor I can be fired."
George said firmly, as if he had made up his mind: "If you agree, I will tell you everything I know."
"Can."
Umbridge agreed almost without hesitation.
Without hesitation, Umbridge had already made up his mind that these two guys who had been opposing him would definitely be punished, and expulsion was a must.
But before that, she needs to squeeze the last bit of value out of the two men and find those rebels.
Tell me, where are they?
Umbridge asked again.
You can't find it now.
George said.
"What does it mean that we can't find it now?"
"Because they discovered a magical room at the school."
Having made his decision, George didn't hesitate any longer and immediately said, "This room is not usually visible; it only appears in a corridor on weekends."
"At those times, members of Dumbledore's Army would go inside to train. It was absolutely safe there; no one could disturb them. They also had sentries posted in the corridor outside the room to ensure absolute security."
