Chapter 35 Snape, that spendthrift!
Chapter 35 Snape, that spendthrift!
After leaving the castle, it was already quite dark. As Xiren quickened his pace and approached the Forbidden Forest, he saw Hagrid standing there, gesturing wildly towards the forest.
"Get away from me, you bad guy, get away from me!"
He appears to be driving away some kind of creature.
"Hagrid," Siren said as he walked over.
"Sirlen?" Hagrid turned around, somewhat surprised. "You shouldn't have left the castle so late. Go back quickly."
"I came here specifically to see you," Siren said.
"Looking for me?"
"Professor Snape wants you to come to his office," Celen said. "Do you have time now?"
"Oh, of course, I've been waiting for quite a while," Hagrid said, looking completely unsurprised, as if he had known all along that he was going to make this trip.
"Wait here for a bit, we'll go back together," Hagrid told Siren, before going inside to change into his mole-skin coat.
"I thought Professor Snape would send that old idiot Filch to find me, but it's you who's here." The voice came from inside the cabin.
"Maybe I just happened to be in his office," Celen said. "What were you doing just now?"
"Chasing a cat." Hagrid came out and took down the oil lamp by the door. "We met it in the Forbidden Forest. Tooth only meowed at it and got scratched. Later, the guy chased after it and almost bit off Tooth's ear."
As if knowing Hagrid was about to leave, a sudden burst of urgent sobbing and scratching at the floor came from inside the house.
Through the crack in the door, Xilun could vaguely see a large black dog, which appeared to be a large Newfoundland or possibly a Neapolitan Mastiff. It was a little hard to see clearly through the crack.
"Don't let its fierce appearance fool you, it's a coward... Calm down, Yaya, calm down, I'll be right back." Hagrid reassured him for a while before finally managing to close the door.
He checked it carefully again until he was sure there were no gaps before he went down the stone steps and returned to the castle with Siron.
At this moment, Xiren's expression was somewhat strange, and his eyes were darting around; he never dared to look Hagrid in the eye.
Come to think of it, it seems like he hasn't seen his pet Tom for quite a while, and this familiar, vengeful behavior that scared Ya Ya so much that she's afraid to go out... could it be... no, it definitely isn't Tom.
Xilun shook his head.
No matter how timid Ya Ya is, it's still quite big. Tom isn't even as tall as one of its legs when he stands up. How could it possibly scare Ya Ya into not daring to go out?
Impossible. The one chasing and biting must be a civet cat living in the Forbidden Forest.
Feeling a little guilty, and seeing Hagrid still berating the culprit who bullied Tooth, Siren quickly changed the subject:
"Hagrid, what does Professor Snape want with you? Why so late? Can't it be tomorrow morning?"
"That bad cat... Oh, Professor Snape said so too, but I think the students might see it in the morning, and now is the perfect time," Hagrid blurted out.
However, after being distracted by Siren, Hagrid stopped paying attention to the cat and subconsciously lifted his mole fur coat to show it off.
"That bone is too long to be completely covered, and it would be a shame to break it."
Listening to Hagrid's mutterings, Siren frowned slightly and fell into deep thought.
bone?
Is it the one behind the table?
Why are there bones in Snape's office, and that wooden stick behind the door...?
Thinking of this, Xilun paused, feeling that he had found the truth.
It's the giant that Quirrell put into the castle on Halloween, and later he locked it up where his three-headed dog, Lulu, was!
The clumsy giant ran right up to the face of the enraged, injured Cerberus, and the outcome was predictable: it would most likely become a snack.
So what about the rest of the troll's body? These magical creatures are quite valuable, so the school probably wouldn't just throw it away, nor would it likely return it to Quirrell.
The answer is obvious... Snape took it.
Upon closer reflection, it seems that all those bizarre potion ingredients in his office were also part of the trolls.
The troll's bones, being too hard to cut or grind, were of little use in potions, so they were left to Hagrid to handle.
Xilun's eyes grew brighter and brighter.
If that's the case, then everything makes sense... Why is there a troll's stick in Snape's office? Why does Hagrid always have to go at night?
After all, it's quite creepy to be carrying a bunch of bones in broad daylight, and it wouldn't be good if students saw it.
Siren immediately looked up and said, "Hagrid..."
"What's wrong?" Hagrid asked.
"No, it's nothing." After a moment of silence, Xiren shook his head. "I mean, we've arrived."
The two had already climbed the stone steps and entered the castle.
"Then you should go back to your dorm quickly." Hagrid didn't think much of it and went down the stairs to the underground classroom.
However, Xilun did not return to the dormitory, but remained where he was.
The November nights were still quite cold, and even the candles burning on the walls on both sides of the foyer seemed to have lost their warmth.
Siren also encountered Filch. Although Filch was very unhappy about the little wizard wandering around the castle at night, it was not yet curfew time, so he could not do anything about Siren and could only glare at him from the side.
Silen suddenly missed Tom. She wondered where that unruly cat had run off to and had some fun. She'd have to send it to have a proper chat with Mrs. Lorris next time.
After a few minutes of this standoff, Hagrid finally came up the stairs.
He was carrying a huge bag on his back, holding a large wooden stick in one hand, and something else in the other, though it was covered by a large sheet and could not be seen.
"Sirlen, what are you still doing here?" Hagrid walked over and saw Filch in the corner.
Hagrid didn't have a very good temper with him.
"Get out of here. Xilun hasn't broken any school rules." His tone was anything but polite, as if he were shooing away some pest.
"I'll be watching you," he said sternly, then left cursing.
"Don't be afraid, that old idiot won't dare to do anything to you," Hagrid said.
Siren waved his hand, not paying any attention; his gaze remained fixed on Hagrid's hand.
"Hagrid, you're not holding a troll's bone, are you?"
"That's right..." Hagrid said, then immediately shut his mouth.
"How do you know... No, I mean, this is not something you should be asking. Go back to your dorm."
Of course, Celen wasn't going to leave; he wasn't waiting here to hear Hagrid curse Filch.
"Where are you going to take them?"
"I can't tell you... Well, I have to get rid of them. Don't ask anymore." Hagrid said sternly as he headed out of the castle.
As he turned around, the bed sheet in his hand was blown open by the wind, revealing a section of white bone underneath.
Judging from the length of the sheet, the bone was about five feet long, and in the moonlight it looked like a thick python.
In that instant, Xilun's eyes lit up, shining like two searchlights in the dark night sky, and he even seemed to be drooling.
Good stuff, really good stuff!
That spendthrift Snape, that idiot who plays with cauldrons, actually wants to throw away such a treasure?
Slurp...
