Hogwarts: Don't call me the Staff Maker

Chapter 3 Giants and Boys

Chapter 3 Giants and Boys

Oliver simply smiled politely at Mr. Weasley's teasing and said nothing.

Although he didn't follow the standard procedure, he didn't care too much. He'd said it so many times already, one more time wouldn't make a difference.

"So you've come here to buy Mr. Weasley his new wand, is that right?" Ollivander looked at the youngest boy in the crowd.

The Weasleys had many children, and they frequented his business almost every year, making them regular customers in a sense.

"No, that's not it." Mrs. Weasley shook her head. "Actually, we want to buy Charlie a new wand; he's going to work at the Dragon Sanctuary soon."

Ollivander paused for a moment, his gaze sweeping over everyone before finally settling on the youngest child's hand.

To be precise, it was on the wand in his hand.

The wand was tattered, with some parts peeling off, and one end still gleamed with a white light.

Merlin's beard is unicorn hair!

Ollivander took a deep breath. He had never seen a wizard whose wand was so broken right after graduation, even more broken than most wands that had been used for twenty or thirty years.

Clearly, it was never properly maintained during this period, and its owner did not cherish it at all.

Ollivander's expression turned rather unpleasant, and even his voice became much colder.

"Yes, that's obvious. Dealing with a fire dragon requires a normal new wand."

He emphasized the word "new wand" when he spoke of it.

The Weasleys knew perfectly well why Ollivander was angry, and they couldn't help but blush, but they had to pretend they didn't know.

For Charlie to deal with dragons, possessing a high-quality Ollivander wand is one of the essential requirements.

Fortunately, Ollivander didn't say much, he just gave them a lukewarm look.

"However, there's something I must remind you: this Mr. Weasley isn't a freshman, so there's no discount on wands this time."

"We know," Mrs. Weasley nodded hastily.

Ollivander nodded without saying a word.

"How about I do it this time?" Seeing that Ollivander didn't want to do business with Charlie, Celen offered, "I'll choose a new wand for this customer."

Under normal circumstances, Ollivander would certainly not agree to Siron's reckless actions.

To put it bluntly, Siron is only eleven years old; he's not qualified to choose wands for guests yet.

But this time Ollivander hesitated only for a moment before nodding in agreement.

"Thank you for your help, dear." Mrs. Weasley seemed relieved.

She knew Xilun.

Unlike most people who only visit the wand shop once every ten years or so, the Weasleys are frequent visitors.

They had met when Percy first came here to buy a wand, and he was also there when the twins bought wands.

Today marks our third meeting. We wouldn't call ourselves close, but we're not strangers either.

Xiren glanced at Charlie, then looked at Ron, and a string of data instantly appeared before his eyes.

[Willow wood, unicorn tail hair, 14 inches]

[Condition: Damaged]

【Characteristic: Reduced Magic Power (A damaged wand will reduce the power of spells; replacement is recommended)】

It's a standard wand, nothing special, and of no reference value.

"I just heard you're going to the Fire Dragon Reserve?"

"Yes, we'll set off in the next few days." Charlie nodded.

"What about oak?" Siren said to himself, "Oak, which contains power, is usually more suited to a tenacious wizard, and it seems like it would go well with a fire dragon."

"As for the core, Weasley and unicorn tail hair are a perfect match, so there's no need to consider anything else."

"About ten inches long, I suppose." Siren glanced at the fourteen-inch willow wand again. "A shorter wand is easier to draw than comfortable."

Charlie's thoughts were unknown, but Ollivander's eyes grew brighter and brighter. As soon as Siron finished speaking, he had already found the corresponding wand.

Oak, unicorn hair, ten and a third inches, perfectly suited to Celen's ideas.

Ollivander handed the wand to Charlie.

He couldn't care less about being angry now; he just wanted to see the results as soon as possible. Seeing that Charlie wasn't moving, he urged him on.

"What are you standing there for? Give it a try..."

"what?"

"Oh!" Charlie waved his wand instinctively.

A cluster of blooming orchids blossoms on the tip of the staff.

"Perfect!" Ollivander exclaimed involuntarily.

Even with his most professional eye, he couldn't find any problems. This wand was a perfect fit for Charlie, even better than his old one.

Of course, there's one more thing he has to say: it was this wand that chose Charlie, even though he was a reckless man who didn't know how to cherish a wand at all.

"Great, I love it." Charlie was equally delighted with the new wand.

Mrs. Weasley stood there, blinking blankly.

No, that fast?

She was a regular customer, but this was the first time she had ever discovered that the efficiency of buying a new wand could be so high.

They just glanced at it, didn't need to measure arms and shoulders, and didn't need to try other combinations, and they've already chosen it?

Charlie himself was very satisfied and immediately put the wand into his jacket pocket.

Seeing this, Mrs. Weasley said nothing more and reluctantly paid seventeen Galleons to buy the wand.

This is also the true price of a magic wand.

Honestly, selling the seven Galleons to the newborns was a complete loss.

Take Charlie's wand for example. The unicorn tail hair alone costs ten Galleons, and the specially treated wood for the wand shaft costs at least two Galleons.

Although the Ministry of Magic will provide them with subsidies, each new student only receives five Galleons, and twelve Galleons is just the cost.

Ollivander didn't charge any production fees, and he made almost no profit.

Ollivanders wand shop has been making wands since 382 BC and has practically monopolized the wand industry in Britain, yet the shop has become increasingly dilapidated, and this is why.

Since it's not profitable at all, most wizards wouldn't waste Galleons to buy themselves a second wand.

For the next few days, Siron stayed at the shop to help out, during which time he also met Hermione, whom Professor McGonagall had brought there to buy a wand.

[Grapevine wood, dragon heart tendon, 10 3/4 inches]

[Status: Perfect]

【Characteristics: None】

A perfectly ordinary wand; of course, ninety percent of new wands are like this.

Over time, the wand will change to varying degrees depending on the user.

Just like Professor McGonagall's wand.

[Fir wood, dragon heart nerve, 9 1/2 inches]

Status: Good

【Trait: Transfiguration Mastery: Mana cost reduced by 50% when using Transfiguration (Minerva McGonagall only)】

Transformer: Transformation casting speed +30% (Minerva McGonagall only)

Insight: Has a high probability of directly destroying the opponent's Polymorph ability (limited to Minerva McGonagall)

All three traits are related to Transfiguration and Professor McGonagall.

This is what we call the wizard influencing the wand. If it were used on someone else, these properties would not only disappear completely, but would be greatly reduced.

……

Soon, it was the last day of July.

Early that morning, Xilun was already waiting in the shop for a special guest.

A whole morning passed, and he still hadn't seen that person. Xilun could only continue to wait patiently.

In the afternoon, not long after lunch, the shop door was pushed open from the outside again.

Accompanied by the crisp sound of a bell, a timid, thin boy who looked like a little chick walked in. Accompanying him was a large man who was at least eleven feet tall.
