Chapter 12 Tensions Rise
Chapter 12 Tensions Rise
As soon as Alice moved, Spence, wearing a black jacket, and Matt, wearing handcuffs, followed her over.
So Zhang Jie, who was asked by Matthew to keep an eye on Matt, naturally followed along.
As Zhang Jie approached, he gave Geralt a meaningful look, clearly having overheard their hushed conversation.
Seeing Alice and the others approach, Zheng Zha and his two companions temporarily forgot their shock and questions.
Alice walked naturally to Geralt's side and stopped, then asked:
"Geralt, what are you talking about? Have you regained some of your memories? Have you remembered something?"
Geralt replied expressionlessly, "No, do you remember anything?"
Alice shook her head and said, "No, there were just some fragmented images that flashed by, but I couldn't understand them at all."
Geralt kept observing Spence, who had followed him, pondering how to expose this spy's identity beforehand.
After all, having this guy around all the time is really an eyesore.
Geralt will not let go of someone who caused this disaster because of their own selfishness.
At this moment, the mercenaries who had gone to scout ahead returned, and Matthew gave orders to the group:
"Everyone, hurry up and follow! To save time, we have to take another route."
Geralt followed, saying, "Looks like we're going to have to get moving again."
Alice didn't leave either, but stayed beside Geralt and asked:
"Have I ever told you that your eyes are very special!"
Geralt continued walking, laughing self-deprecatingly, "There are too many. Most people who see these eyes would call me a freak."
Why?
Alice asked in bewilderment, "I think your eyes are cool."
Meanwhile, Zhan Lan, who was on Geralt's other side, interjected, "Those people are too foolish. I think your cat eyes are beautiful."
Geralt smiled and didn't respond to the topic further.
Alice, seeing that Geralt had stopped talking, felt that she had said something wrong and affected Geralt's mood, so she wanted to change the subject to make amends.
Alice's gaze swept over the two swords on Geralt's back, and she asked, "Geralt, are you a very good swordsman?"
Geralt said meaningfully, "If nothing unexpected happens, you'll see it soon enough."
Alice was taken aback at first, then realized what was happening and said, "You mean we're in danger later? Have you remembered something?"
"Sorry, it was just a feeling, I don't remember anything."
Geralt gave a perfunctory reply.
At this moment, the group suddenly slowed down and passed through a steel gate into a vast hall filled with shipping containers connected by thick pipes.
Geralt frowned, looking around at the shipping containers. As soon as he entered, the pungent, overwhelming stench of corpses mixed with some indescribable foul smell assaulted his nostrils.
"So this is the Restaurant B that Zhan Lan mentioned, the one filled with Licker containers."
Geralt scanned the entire room, calculating roughly how many containers were in the hall, and found the number to be astonishingly large.
Geralt secretly calculated that killing a Creeper would earn him 100 reward points from the main god, while killing 10 zombies would only earn him 1 reward point. In other words, one Creeper was equivalent to 1000 zombies.
There are roughly 70 crawlers here. If they all wake up, it will be quite a sight.
"Kaplan, is this Restaurant B?"
Matthew looked around and asked in confusion.
Kaplan checked the small computer strapped to his arm again and replied, "Yes, that's how it's marked on the map."
Matthew frowned upon hearing this, glanced around at the cameras pointing at them, and said:
"Kaplan, according to the map, passing through Restaurant B leads to the Fire Queen's main server room, right?"
Kaplan confirmed again, "Yes, Captain."
Looking at the indistinct array of shipping containers around her, and imagining that each container contained a Licker, Zhan Lan felt a chill run down her spine. She instinctively moved closer to Geralt, as if that would give her a greater sense of security.
At this moment, Matthew did not set off immediately, but secretly observed Geralt and the others, and began to make plans in his mind.
Geralt and his companions' behavior along the way, along with their age and clothing, had already made Matthew suspicious of their security identities.
To Matthew, apart from Zhang Jie and Geralt who resembled security personnel, the rest of these people looked like ordinary citizens.
At this moment, they were close to completing the mission. The Flame Queen's server room was just ahead, and with time running out, Matthew could not afford any unexpected discoveries.
Matthew first looked at the Desert Eagle in Zhang Jie's hand, then at Geralt carrying two swords. After considering it for a moment, he decided that Zhang Jie, with his gun, posed a greater threat, and thus made up his mind.
"Zhang Jie, Ryan, JD, the three of you stay here to guard this prisoner and also keep watch over the exit."
Matthew gave the order.
After saying that, Matthew looked at Geralt and the others who remained and said, "The rest of you, follow me and continue forward."
Zhang Jie glanced at his watch and saw that the 100-meter distance limit was still in effect. He couldn't help but curse under his breath, "Damn it."
Geralt had just turned his gaze away from his watch, clearly noticing that the distance restriction imposed by the main god was still in place, so he said to Matthew, "Captain, I don't think splitting up is a good option in this particular situation."
Matthew's eyes narrowed, and he stared coldly at Geralt, saying, "As fellow employees of the company, I currently have the highest authority. As a security guard, your job is to obey orders."
"Or are you going to disobey orders!"
Upon hearing this, Matthew immediately pointed his submachine gun at Geralt, and the other mercenaries also simultaneously pointed their guns at Geralt.
The situation changed rapidly in an instant, leaving Zheng Zha and the others dumbfounded.
Alice stepped in front of Geralt and said, "Wait, what are you doing? Let's talk this out, put your guns down!"
The mercenaries remained unmoved, and Matthew coldly told Alice, "Security, get out of the way now!"
Alice remained unmoved, unafraid of Matthew and the others' guns, and stubbornly stared at Matthew.
Geralt looked at Alice, who fearlessly stood in front of him, and it was as if he saw a familiar figure.
When Zhang Jie saw Geralt in such a predicament because he stood up for him, he felt a warmth in his heart, but at the same time he was also very annoyed.
"God, you deserve to die!"
"This is forcing me!"
Zhang Jie cursed inwardly.
