Chapter 501: Becoming the New Guardian
Chapter 501: Becoming the New Guardian
Liora watched as the Guardian’s body crumbled before her.
Seeing it transform into a stream of information, she couldn’t help but sigh.
This guy deserved to be called a supreme genius.
Not only had he awakened an SS-Rank talent related to Light, but he also possessed ample experience, both in combat and in utilizing his talent.
Perhaps more importantly, his body seemed to have mutated, being completely unlike that of ordinary humans.
His physical strength far surpassed that of Rank 1 Awakeners, and even Rank 2 Awakeners would have trouble wrestling with him. All of the above gave him an overwhelming advantage over his Rank 1 opponents.
"Unfortunately, you happened to meet me.", Liora shook her head, knowing full well that she had cheated in order to win.
Not only did her strength surpass Rank 1, concealed only because of her World of Heart, but she had also awakened a Domain.
Even if she hid most of her strength and pretended to be an "ordinary" Rank 1 Awakener, the result was the same. She easily crushed the Guardian.
Just as she was thinking, the mechanical voice rang out.
This time, there was a hint of fluctuation in its tone, and it was no longer as emotionless.
"Awakener Liora Augustus has emerged victorious! Contribution Points +1,000,000."
"Score: Wins: 100, Defeats: 0."
"Rank Up!"
"Overall Rating: 10 Stars."
After a brief pause, the voice continued:
"The Awakener has cleared the final trial. Awakener Liora Augustus has reached 10 Stars..."
"Ding! The challenger has been deemed worthy to replace the previous Guardian!"
The moment the voice finished speaking, Liora sensed the arena beneath her feet tremble.
A strand of information shot out of her body, blending into her surroundings and disappearing.
The next instant, a phantom emerged before her.
It was a woman with crimson hair, red eyes, and wearing an indifferent, aloof expression.
Liora immediately recognized her.
Who else could it be but her?
Despite this, she wasn’t caught off guard by this result.
She had already learned that this would happen during her earlier battles with the previous Guardian.
In addition, the relevant information had poured into her mind the moment she completed the final challenge.
"The position of the Guardian is not merely a matter of reputation. It grants substantial benefits to the Guardian, which is why there is a fierce battle to obtain it."
"Every time the Guardian’s phantom defeats a challenger, their true selves will be rewarded with one Contribution Point.", Liora whispered.
A single Contribution Point was nothing, especially now that she had accumulated millions of them.
Yet, one had to know that this required her to do nothing. She neither had to fight nor go through any difficulties.
All she had to do was exist, and a steady stream of Contribution Points would arrive in her account.
More importantly, the vast number of challengers could make up for the low amount.
"Reaching 9 Stars is indeed rare, but the Human Federation is in control of billions of planets. The total human population is difficult to estimate."
"Even if only one Awakener among a billion humans can reach this point, their total number will be astronomical.", Liora deduced.
Raising her head to look at her phantom, which looked much like her, both in appearance and demeanor, she nodded her head.
This alone was already worth it.
She didn’t try to communicate with her phantom. Instead, she observed it for a few seconds before summoning the War Academy’s System.
...
Name: Liora Augustus
Occupation: Student of the War Academy
Home Planet: Nova Terra
Talent: Elemental Affinity (SS-Rank)
Rank: [1]
Rating: 10 Stars
Authority: Level 2
Contribution Points: 1,114,600
...
Not much had changed since the last time she took a look at it.
The only differences were the increase in her Contribution Points, coupled with the change in her Rating and overall Authority.
Liora immediately focused her attention on the latter.
The promise of an increase in Authority was one of the main reasons why she had been determined to clear this trial.
"Authority was already extremely important before, as it is required to access various environments within the Information World. Now that I have enrolled in the War Academy, its role is even greater."
Most environments and "treasure places" within the Academy were restricted behind certain Authority requirements.
This was to motivate the students to grow stronger, as well as to contribute more to the human race.
The environment Liora currently wanted to gain access to the most was also the same. More specifically, it required an Authority of Level 2.
Seeing that she had finally reached her goal, Liora didn’t stay to observe the aftermath of her achievement.
She quickly returned to reality and exited her residence, prepared to use her recently obtained Contribution Points and elevated Authority to access one of the Academy’s most well-known places.
Her goal was clear.
After today, she would finally have a plausible reason to reveal a greater part of her true strength.
--
While Liora was happy for her plan to have succeeded and for the next part to commence, some people were not as fortunate.
With a swoosh, a young girl suddenly appeared in the Battle Arena.
Her hair was tied in twin ponytails, while her eyes were filled with youthful immaturity but also boundless battle intent.
"I’ve finally mastered the third level of Destruction Spear! Today, I should be able to pass the sixth level of the trial!", the young girl muttered, clenching her fists and conveying her intention to the Information World.
The next moment, a phantom materialized before her.
The girl bowed respectfully out of habit.
"Senior, I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but today, I’m destined to pass this level—Huh? Who are you?"
Halfway through her sentence, the girl realized that there was something amiss.
The handsome blonde man who had accompanied her in thousands of battles so far was nowhere to be seen.
In his place stood a girl who looked to be of a similar age to her, staring at her indifferently.
Countless thoughts raced through the challenger’s mind.
Having reached this point, she was a genius with an outstanding background.
She quickly deduced what was happening and the reason behind the sudden change.
"Are you the new Guardian? Did you defeat Senior?", she couldn’t help but ask, her face filled with astonishment.
